Det stod att Ung cancer skulle besöka festivalen som skulle äga rum på nationaldagen, och jag som alltid hade velat syssla med välgörenhet, frågade om jag kunde få hjälpa till.
Utan att ens veta vad Ung cancer var för något, så fick jag ett mail om att jag stod uppskriven som volontär.
Dagen var inne och det var med ett pirr i magen & darriga ben som jag traskade iväg till Apslätten, där evenemanget skulle hållas.
Jag som nog var den osäkraste människan i världen, visste inte vad jag hade gett mig in på.
Men innerst inne kände jag på mig att jag hade gjort rätt val.
Jag stod mest still den dagen. Jag sa knappt ett ljud och stod upp medan de andra satt ner i gräset och vilade.
Jag vågade inte säga ett ljud, röra på mig eller ställa alla de där frågorna som jag egentligen ville ställa.
Jag var helt enkelt alldeles för blyg, och var efter den där dagen lite ledsen.
Ledsen för att jag hade gjort ett dåligt förstaintryck, och ledsen för att jag trodde jag hade sabbat min chans att bli en del av Ung cancer.
Men så fel jag hade!
Det dröjde inte länge innan Julia, grundaren av organisationen, hörde av sig till mig.
Hon sa att jag alltid var välkommen att komma och pärla, fika & kramas.
Så när mitt sommarlov startade, började jag hänga på kontoret.
Dag efter dag. Jag växlade i början inte särskilt många ord alls, jag satt mest tyst.
Men för varje dag som gick, så blev jag säkrare och säkrare på mig själv.
När de andra på kontoret fick reda på att jag hade en slags social fobi, som betydde att jag inte klarade av att prata framför folk, så var de snabba med att säga att detta ska fixa sig.

Till en början tyckte jag att det var urlöjligt, det var ju inte just det här med att ha ett samtal med en person som var problemet, utan att t ex hålla tal.
Men saken är den att träningen med följdfrågor och allt var det innebar, var så viktig för mig.
Utan att jag visste om det själv. För det var något jag inte trodde att jag hade svårt med, fast egentligen var det en stor del av problemet.
Efteråt fick jag höra från en av de som hjälpte mig: "vi skulle inte ha hjälpt dig med detta, nu kommer vi ju aldrig få tyst på dig.." och det var delvis sant. Sedan dess har jag varje dag utvecklats och blivit så mycket säkrare i mig själv. Jag har börjat tro på mig själv och jag har tagit tag i det som var ett stort dilemma för mig.
Efter sommaren började jag första året på gymnasiet och hamnade tyvärr på fel gymnasium. Jag mådde jättedåligt och den första veckan var ett helvete. Men då fanns mina vänner i Ung cancer där för mig och stöttade mig. De sa att jag skulle ge det en chans, men då hade jag blivit så trygg i mig själv att jag sa att jag vägrade försöka. Jag lyssnade på mitt hjärta och bytte till ett ställe där jag trivdes mycket bättre. Och att komma in i en klass som redan var skapad, är kanske inte det lättaste. Men det gick väldigt, väldigt bra då jag hade fått hjälp hela sommaren med hur jag skulle göra i sådana situationer.
I slutet av det första gymnasieåret höll jag mitt första tal någonsin. Tack vare allt stöd jag fått av Ung cancer. Jag mådde illa av nervositet, men jag fixade det galant. Tårarna var många efteråt och stoltheten var enorm.
Nu kom jag ifrån själva ämnet lite grand, men det jag ville säga var att den här organisationen har blivit mitt andra hem. Jag har spenderat så många eftermiddagar med att hänga på kontoret och jag har försökt ta mig tid till att arbeta ideellt där. Jag har fått vara med på event, jobbat på fester och träffat så otroligt många människor. Alla unika. Jag har lärt känna mig själv och jag har lärt känna några av mina nuvarande närmaste där. Jag har lärt mig mycket om cancer och fått möta många individer som själva är drabbade samt sådana som är anhöriga till någon med cancer. Jag har fått byta erfarenheter med folk och börjat se livet på ett helt annat sätt.
Den här sommaren har jag fått äran att under 5 veckor få sommarjobba på kontoret, och det har varit de bästa veckorna i mitt liv.
Jag har gråit, skrattat, sjungit, dansat, ramlat och haft så många känslor som bara har brytit sig ut.
Och det är det som är så bra med Ung cancer - man får känna precis vad man vill innanför deras väggar.
Man får gråta, man får skratta, man får skrika, man får prata och man får vara alldeles tyst.
Ingen dömer en och man bär runt på vetskapen att det alltid finns någon där, ifall man behöver hjälp eller bara vill prata. Det är ett sådant otroligt lugn att befinna sig på den platsen och det känns bra i hjärtat.
